Ironic meetings, books opening on significant pages, delays on a journey, catching an eye across a crowded room - is it just the stuff of literature or is it also the stuff of life?
Have you ever had a relationship begin with a chance meeting? Have you ever been looking for a job and found the ideal opportunity turn up in front of you without trying?
Here's the kind of thing I'm talking about:
Back in 1989, suffering from vanity, I walk along the high street, checking out my appearance in the shop windows. I liked the way I looked that day and smiled at my reflection, only to notice someone on the other side smiling back at me. Two and a half years later we were married and two years later my son was born.
In 1991, I changed jobs form one I enjoyed to one I loathed - selling life assurance. As luck would have it I bumped into one of my old colleagues who told me the place they'd moved onto had an opening that would suit me.
In 2002, I undertook a contract. The contract didn't turn out well, but it led to me meeting my partner, Jo. When I asked her to dinner several months later, she said she couldn't make it. An hour after being blow out I was filling my car up with petrol. As I did this I caught myself doing something really odd - I was rehearsing a wedding speech!
In 2004, searching on the internet for the location of another property, the one I now live in came up on screen as a pop up. More spooky than that, when I reread my journal six months after I moved in, I saw that a clairvoyant had told me I'd find my home in a strange place. 'Maybe even on the internet,' she said.
I've listed events here that turned out to be significant, but if I'm honest the list is endless. I'm mentioning them because I want to jog your memory of events that have surprised and intrigued you.
When we notice these kind of events it's perfectly normal to think of them as a 'spooky moment'. When this happens, most people feel - for a flash of an instant - that they were somehow connected to something bigger and greater. Even so, it's probably fair to say that the event will often pass as a mystery and the true meaning of the moment will remain elusive.
Coincidences are moments of destiny. They bring us to life. They reassure us that we are still part of the grand plan and they reminded us that there is a great and enigmatic force conjuring miracles behind the scenes.
As I'm writing this the words of author Caroline Myss come to mind. She says 'synchronicity and physical manifestations are expensive energy.' It stands to reason then that there must be an opposite and equal price to pay for all that good energy.
Over the past few years, I've become a huge fan of coincidence. I love those bewildering events that seem to occur almost out of the dust. Over this time I've also come to have a great respect for what occurs and the massive amount of energy the universe has to summon up to create what I need.
When I reflect on my needs now, I endeavor to do it consciously, ensuring that I am doing what I can to serve the world. On that note I have a few questions for you. Further down you'll find a tip or two for working with what I've been discussing here.
1. There's a lot been written in Mind Body and Spirit circles on manifesting and manifesting techniques. Be conscious when you try these techniques. Try to get a grasp of how much you're asking for and offer yourself in service in a way that brings you joy and would more than repay for the service.
2. If you want a million pounds, learn about money, put yourself out in service to the world in a million pounds kind of way. If you want a soul mate, start by giving time and space to understanding who you are - if you don't know your soul, what chance will your prospective mate have?
3. Respect coincidence. Enjoy it. Look for it. It creates connection to people, to all life and all nature. That's got to be better than criticism and conflict, hasn't it?
4. Do you want to learn more on this subject? I have 6 week programmes running through the summer and one day workshops, specific to money running in the autumn.
With Love and good wishes
Neil
