Visiting London On A Budget

As it goes, London is packed with sights and sounds to please everyone, with The London Eye, the Houses of Parliament and St Paul’s Cathedral to name but a few. And no matter whether you enjoy historical sights or you prefer to visit more modern venues, you certainly won’t be bored on a trip to London.

But, how can you see the best the city has to offer when you are on a strict budget? The secret is to do your homework before you go. As hard as it may be to believe, in London there is a lot that you can do for free, and you’d be surprised by how much you can pack into any itinerary while spending the absolute minimum in the process!

While there is no doubt that you can get around quite happily on the tube or the bus, nothing is that spread out, so you can get to most places on foot as well. Therefore, try and plan your day so that you can visit a number of places in the same area to minimise travel costs.

Of course, walking in itself can be a great experience. It is therefore good to know that there is a lot to see and do along the banks of the Thames, with great spots on the South Bank to stop and enjoy a picnic if you want to avoid spending money on an expensive lunch.

Furthermore, you can also spend a lot of time browsing round some of the world’s greatest exhibits in the various London museums. The Natural History Museum is always a favourite, and it is free to get into as well. In addition, so is the Museum of London, which contains among other things an exhibit about the Great Fire of London.

It is also worth picking up some of the free magazines and newspapers dotted around the city once you are there. More than often these will have listings and adverts for free and cheap events across the whole city. However, not everything is available to see all year round, so you might catch a good free event that you would have missed simply by finding out what’s going on.

Indeed, one of the best places to visit is undoubtedly Covent Garden. The area is famous for its market, quirky shops and street performers, which you can watch and enjoy for free. But perhaps save some cash to spend in one of the cafes or restaurants in the area though!

And if you are planning to stay for more than a day in the city, then you will be glad to know that you can get cheap accommodation as well. There are a wide range of London hotels to suit any budget, making it possible to enjoy your stay much more cheaply than you may have realised.

So, with an array of attractions available to visit in London and at very little cost, the only difficulty that may remain is how to plan everything into your itinerary!
