Are You Ready For The Family This Christmas?

So, have you got the family coming to you this Christmas? If you have, don’t worry. It doesn’t need to cost a fortune and you can still make your home look sensational.

Perhaps the most important part of Christmas will be decorating the dining table. And there’s no need to get a brand new one either – although if you feel the urge to splash out, there’s no better time to do it!

The secret is in the way you dress it. Think about sumptuous reds and shades of gold, with matching cloth napkins and all the crockery and cutlery laid out before everyone arrives. If you have a suitable tablecloth already, you can spend more on buying good quality decorative touches such as napkin rings and candle holders.

And, what better way to enjoy Christmas dinner than by candlelight? Even in the daytime it helps to set the mood, so make sure you buy classic dinner candles that will last throughout the meal.

Another good way to draw everyone’s attention to the table is to create your own display of dried or artificial seasonal flowers. A coloured vase filled with winter holly and berries, along with silver sprayed twigs makes an unusual change from a standard vase of flowers.

As you can see, you can certainly impress everyone in your family with the smaller touches. But these don’t have to stop at the dinner table either. Everyone loves the traditional Christmas tree, but why not buy some new Christmas ornaments to dress that occasional side table as well?

It’s also a great idea to spend a few pounds on some seasonally decorated bowls, as they can be used for all kinds of purposes. You could fill them with winter themed pot pourri, throw a mixture of nuts and dried fruit in them, or fill them with everyone’s favourite chocolates.

Incidentally, pot pourri that is scented with festive aromas - such as cinnamon, cloves and even cranberries - can really bring a seasonal mood to any room. So, see if you can buy some refresher oil with your initial purchase to freshen it up when necessary.

The trick is to look at every room and think about how you could bring some Christmas spirit into it without having to spend a large amount in the process. The smaller touches will often have more impact than splashing out on items that are really not necessary, for example, a bigger tree that you really don’t have room for.

Don’t be afraid to try something different when it comes to your home furnishings either. This is undoubtedly the best way to create an impression that lasts – and it will be for all the right reasons too.
